Stories from Living Lutheran: Can't turn Away
My wife and I came to Holy Trinity as a first stop on our “church shopping” tour because we heard the congregation was very involved in the community, active with social justice and passionate about serving their neighbors. We discovered that the people at Holy Trinity and in the ELCA were about concrete acts of love to others without expecting something in return. We discovered that Jesus really did have good news. As it turned out, it was the only stop on our search for a Christian community that welcomes us, feeds us and sends us out into the world to share God’s love, serve our neighbor in all that we do and share the message that no matter who we are and what we might have done in the past, God loves us! God may not want us to stay the way we are but God loves us and there is nothing we can do to change that.
Here we learned and continue to learn what is means to be a community of faith. Here we learned how to be the Good Samaritan. We learned that God forgives us and that he wants us to forgive others. Here we learn that God loves us so much that he sent his only son into the world to show us that love. God was willing to let a part of him die for us in spite of all that we have done or have left undone. This is amazing and true love. This is what I want to teach my daughter and hopefully, this is the way I will love others.
